Sustainability, a central theme of this course, is introduced and expanded upon by Peter Kanowski through a discussion of the State of the Environment report which provide a valuable indicator on how successful Australia is heading towards sustainability. You will be challenged on whether you think Australia is now better off or worse than at the time of your birth, and why you think one way or the other. Sustainability as an idea will be defined further, drawing on a range of ideas which at times conflict and illustrate the complexity of the problem, and the necessity for change.
