human dimensions of global change

Will Steffen is the director of the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University, and his research interests span a broad range within the field of Earth System science, with a special emphasis on terrestrial ecosystem interactions with global change, the global carbon cycle, incorporation of human processes in Earth System modelling and analysis, and sustainability and the Earth System. This week's panel topic describes the development of the Anthropocene, the new geological era in which humans have evolved from hunter-gatherers into a global geophysical force, and what the Anthropocene implies for our future on Earth.
