Succeeding in university study:
What SRES and ANU can do to help!
The facts
- making the transition to university study is challenging for
most people, though in different ways;
- most students who fail courses or drop out of study do so
not because they're not capable of passing, but because they don't seek the
right assistance at the right time;
- we want you to succeed at ANU, and there are plenty of people
to help you.
Where to start:
Particular courses
if you're having trouble with any aspects of a particular course,
start with the course convenor or your tutor. They will provide their contacts
in lectures and in course material (eg www resources).
Course and degree choice, & general academic advice
- SRES has Program Convenors for each of its four program areas:
- Forestry - Peter Kanowski (Peter.Kanowski@anu.edu.au )
- Geography - Richard Baker ( richard.baker@anu.edu.au )
- Human Ecology - Rob Dyball (Rob.Dyball@anu.edu.au )
- REM - John Field ( john.field@anu.edu.au )
- Find SRES staff contacts in the SRES Yearbook or Undergraduate Handbook
(free from SRES reception) and on the SRES www site (http://sres.anu.edu.au).
- See whichever Convenor relates to your interest or degree;
if in doubt, ask any of them, or ask at SRES reception (Forestry Building,
#48)..
- If you're having trouble contacting someone, or need to ask
advice about who to ask, contact SRES reception in person (Forestry Building,
#48), by phone (6125 2579), or email (sres@anu.edu.au).
- Ask other SRES students - start with those on your SRES Student
Society committee
